As the first wave of North Carolina Little League Baseball District 6 tournaments wraps up at Gillette Baseball Complex on Thursday, two more district extravaganzas get going Friday at Gillette. Right on the heels of the Ages 8-10 championship being decided Thursday at Southern Bank Stadium will be tournament openers for ages 9-11 and 10-12 on Friday.

The District 6 Ages 9-11 tournament, like the 8-9 tourney, will be a four-team bracket. Tournament host Wilson City Little League will take on South Durham at 6 p.m. on Field No. 2 while Clayton faces Bull City at 8 p.m. The winners of those two games square off Saturday morning at 9 while the losers meet right after that game in an elimination game at 11 a.m., also on Field No. 2.

The losers bracket final is set for Sunday morning at 9 at Southern Bank Stadium with the first championship game set for Monday at 8 p.m. at the stadium. The “if necessary” game is Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Southern Bank Stadium.

The "big boys," ages 10-12, start play Friday with the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, as the ultimate destination. However, the first step is district play, beginning Friday night at Southern Bank Stadium. Bull City and Clayton start the proceedings at 6 p.m., followed by Wilson and Person County at 8. The winner of the first game will take on Wilmington on Saturday at 9 a.m. while the Wilson-Person victor faces South Durham immediately afterwards. The 10-12 district tournament continues with elimination games Monday and Tuesday before the district final Wednesday night, followed by the “if necessary” game Thursday.

The WCLL Ages 9-11 All-Stars are led by Michael Williams, the head of the WCLL Majors champion, E.B. Sports. The Ages 10-12 All-Stars will be led by Jay Wheeler, an assistant coach of the Farris & Thomas squad this spring.

Gillette will host the North Carolina Little League state championship tournaments for the 7-8 and 8-9 age divisions as well as the Tournament of State Champions for the 8-10 and 9-11 divisions.
