Wilson City Manager Grant Goings has announced two changes to the city’s leadership staff.
On Monday, Goings named Chief Planning and Development Officer Rodger Lentz as the new assistant city manager. Human Relations Director Dante Pittman will serve as assistant to the city manager.
“Rodger has been an integral part of our growth and success over the last 15 years, and Dante has the skill sets to help lead our future,” Goings said. “We are very fortunate to have such strong capacity throughout our team, and I look forward to working with Rodger and Dante in their new roles.”
Harry Tyson served as deputy city manager before retiring last year. Tony W. Sears, formerly the city manager in Kinston, stepped into Tyson’s role following 18 years of city leadership in other communities, but Sears resigned in early April.
“The city will not seek to fill the deputy city manager position at this time,” Goings said Monday. “Instead, we will distribute those responsibilities amongst our current team.”
Lentz will assume responsibility for departments including parks and recreation, communications and Wilson Fire/Rescue Services in addition to his current responsibilities. Several other departments that previously reported to the deputy city manager will now report directly to Goings.
City officials say Pittman will work with Goings and Lentz on special projects while continuing his leadership of the city’s human relations department.
