A Wilson man is accused of filming or facilitating child pornography after police searched his cellphone during a raid on his home this week.

Dameon Dashawn Reed, 19, was arrested Monday at 322 Jackson St., according to a release from Sgt. Eric McInerny, public information officer for the Wilson Police Department.

Officers executed a search warrant at Reed’s Jackson Street home and found stolen property, McInerny said. During the search, he said, police recovered child sexual abuse material from Reed’s phone.

Reed was charged with one count each of first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and taking indecent liberties with a child.

A person is guilty of first-degree sexual exploitation if he or she “uses, employs, induces, coerces, encourages or facilitates” a minor to engage in sexual activity for a live performance or recording; allows a minor under his or her custody or control to engage in sexual activity for those reasons; transports a minor within the state with the intent to facilitate sexual activity; or “records, photographs, films, develops or duplicates” material that “contains a visual representation depicting a minor engaged in sexual activity,” according to N.C. General Statute 14-190.16.

It’s unclear which element of the offense police allege Reed committed.

The sexual exploitation charge is a Class C felony. Under the N.C. Structured Sentencing Act, it carries a presumptive sentence of four years, 10 months to six years, one month in prison for an offender with no criminal conviction history.

The indecent liberties charge is a Class F felony with a presumptive sentence of 13-16 months in prison or on intermediate punishment.

Reed was jailed in the Wilson County Detention Center under a $200,000 bond. He remained in custody Thursday afternoon.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Wilson Police Department at 252-399-2323 or Crime Stoppers at 252-243-2255.
