July 13, 1936 — April 3, 2021
Mary Patricia Walters “Patsy” White, 84, of Wilson, died peacefully at her home on Saturday morning, April 3, 2021, surrounded by her family.
Patsy was born July 13, 1936, in Franklin County to the late Joseph Vernon and Aileen Williams Walters and grew up in Pine Level. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Joseph V. Walters Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Warren Keith White; their daughter, Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Sarnelli and her husband, Jerry; and their children, Matthew Joseph Sarnelli and Anna Elizabeth Sarnelli.
Patsy received her undergraduate degree and master’s degree in biology from East Carolina University. She spent most of her 20 year teaching career at Tarboro High School. A talented and dedicated teacher, Patsy loved each of her students (who she called her “children,”) many of whom returned to visit her long after they had graduated. Her students fondly remember the leaf collection books created in her class. As much as she enjoyed teaching, Patsy’s favorite job was being a wife, mother and grandmother. Patsy touched many lives in a positive way and will be deeply missed.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, in the Oliver Cemetery near Pine Level. The Rev. Patrick Yelverton, a family friend, will officiate. The family will receive friends for a short time following the service at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
