Clothing giveaway set for Saturday

The Nash-Edgecombe-Wilson Reentry Services program will hold a clothing giveaway for men, women and children at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, at in the parking lot of the Reid Street Community Center, 901 Reid St. E.

Clothing will be available until it runs out. The effort is in partnership with the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s Gamma Beta Omega chapter and Wilson Parks and Recreation. For more information, call 252-315-3768.

After-Thanksgiving meal scheduled

Total Impact Outreach Ministries will hold its free “Giving Back to the Community After-Thanksgiving meal” at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27.

The ministry will serve barbecue pork, grilled chicken, sides and beverages until food runs out. For more information, call 252-363-9422.

Sorority plans prematurity awareness program

The Zeta Phi Beta Sorority’s Omicron Iota Zeta chapter will hold its annual Prematurity Awareness Month program at 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, at Salisbury AME Zion Church, 2029 Lipscomb Road.

Delayed start for jurors

Wilson County Clerk of Court Carolina Quinn said jurors who have been summoned on Monday, Nov. 29, should report for jury duty at 1 p.m. instead of 9 a.m. at the downtown Wilson courthouse.

Conservative Ladies’ Lunch scheduled

The Wilson County Republican Party will hold a Conservative Ladies’ Lunch at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, at the Eagle Farm Community Clubhouse, 3647 Eagle Farm Circle.

All conservative women are invited to bring their lunch and bring a friend. For more information, call Wilson County GOP Chairwoman Christy Fyle at 252-640-2684.

Cooper-Suggs holding essay contest

The legislative office of Rep. Linda Cooper-Suggs is holding an essay contest for all high school students in Wilson County. Entries are due by 11:59 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5.

Students are invited to submit an essay responding to one of the three following prompts:

• Why should people be interested in politics on the local and state levels?

• How do you engage with people who might have different political opinions than you? Why is this important?

• If you were in the General Assembly, what issues would you focus on? Why?

The winner will receive a certificate and be invited for a tour of the General Assembly.

Essays must be no more than 750 words and can be submitted online at tinyurl.com/lcscontest.

GOP plans Christmas social

The Wilson County Republican Party will hold a Christmas social at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, at the Wilson Elks Lodge, 2814 Fieldstream Drive.

Admission is free and donations are accepted. Appetizers and tea will be provided, and a cash bar will be available. All are welcome to attend. For more information, call Wilson County GOP Chairwoman Christy Fyle at 252-640-2684.

Wreath-making workshop offered

The Wilson Volunteer Master Gardeners will provide a botanical wreath-making workshop Thursday, Dec. 9. Two sessions are offered. The first is 2-4 p.m., and the second is 6-8 p.m., both at the Wilson Agricultural Center, 1806 Goldsboro St. SW.

Wreath frames, floral wire for attaching items to the frame and botanical greenery will be provided. Participants must register and pay online. The cost is $35 per individual; Wilson Botanical Gardens members pay $30.

Santa for Seniors returns

The Wilson County Senior Citizens Activity Center, 1808 Goldsboro St. SW, is collecting Santa for Seniors gifts through Friday, Dec. 17.

Anyone who’d like to fulfill a senior’s wishes can pick up an ornament at the center. Ornaments are labeled with recipients’ gender and Christmas wishes.

Participants are asked to purchase items from the list and return them unwrapped to the senior center by Dec. 17 or call for pickup. Gifts will be delivered to seniors on Wednesday, Dec. 22.
