The opportunity to record a top-20 victory was there for the Barton College baseball team Thursday, but a two-run error and wild pitch in the top of the 13th inning ultimately derailed those plans as the Bulldogs dropped a game of nearly five hours with an 11-8 defeat to Ashland (Ohio) University at Fleming Stadium in the Wilson Tobs Division II Basebal Classic.

Barton's Michelle Gainey had three 3-pointers and all 10 of her points in the second half to lift the Lady Bulldogs into the Conference Carolinas championship game Thursday night with a 66-64 win over Mount Olive.
