VALDOSTA, Ga. — After fighting its way into contention with just half a round completed Friday, Barton College could not maintain that Saturday over the final 27 holes of the NCAA Division II men’s golf South/Southeast Super Regional.

The nationally No. 17-ranked Bulldogs, tied for fourth when bad weather stopped play Friday with most of the team at the midpoint, slid to a ninth-place tie with No. 5 Lincoln Memorial when play wrapped up Saturday at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club. Barton finished the three-round event with its highest score in posting a 282-294-298—874 on the par-72, 7,420-yard layout. With the top six teams in the field of 20 advancing to the national championship later this month in Detroit, Barton, with the top Conference Carolinas showing, missed the cut by six strokes.

Senior Bryson Boyette ended up as Barton’s top finisher despite having just one round under par. The Conference Carolinas Player of Year finished in a cluster with seven others for 27th place after turning in a 74-70-73—217. One of those tied with Boyette was teammate Muhammad Afif Mohd Fathi, who sagged after a first-round 65 that had him in first place by himself Thursday. Fathi (67-77-79—217 dropped five spots after round 2.

Harrison Wierse (77-69-74—220) tied three for 48th place while Daniel Adkins (70-75-76—221) was the last scorer for the Bulldogs tied for 52nd.  Kris Jackson (T100th, 73-78-82—233) was Barton’s fifth golfer.

Tenth-ranked Limestone blistered its way to the title with a 17-under-par 281-281-285—847 to whip No. Barry (277-282-298—857) by 10 strokes. Also qualifying for the national championship tournament were Lee (289-281-290—860), North Georgia (291-286-283-860), Georgia Southeastern (284-281-299—864) and Florida Southern (285-282-299—866).

A.J. Ewart of Barry reigned as the regional champion with a 6-under 69-68-66—203, six strokes better than Austin Fulton of West Georgia. King’s Samuel Trueba claimed the second individual berth for nationals when he topped West Florida’s Patrick Poate in a one-hole playoff.
