SIMS — Marsh Swamp Original Free Will Baptist Church’s Women’s Auxiliary recently recognized Janet S. Nichols with a lifetime membership certificate in recognition of her many years of service to the auxiliary and the church.

Nichols joined the church in 1951 and the auxiliary in 1970. She has served in multiple roles in the auxiliary including youth chair, publicity chair and vice president. She has fulfilled the responsibilities of benevolence chair for more than 30 years. Many families have received meals from this group during their time of bereavement as a result of her leadership, according to the auxiliary.

Nichols has also been church clerk for more than 40 years. She has recorded the church’s business minutes and reported them at each quarterly meeting.   

Nichols taught school for 36 years in Johnston, Greene and Wilson counties. She continues to substitute and volunteer at Rock Ridge Elementary School.

Nichols was married to the late Billy Nichols and has two children and three grandchildren.
