Wilson personal injury and criminal defense attorney Will Farris will help evaluate the state’s court system’s effectiveness and recommend changes as a member of the North Carolina Courts Commission.

Gov. Roy Cooper announced Farris’ appointment to the panel as a practicing attorney in a Wednesday news release that detailed 26 appointments to 16 state boards and commissions.

Farris is a partner at Farris & Thomas Law in Wilson who earned the National Trial Lawyers’ “Top 40 Under 40” designation. Super Lawyers named Farris a five-time Rising Star for personal injury cases.

He’s served as chairman of the Wilson Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and is a past Wilson County Democratic Party chair.

The N.C. Courts Commission consists of 28 members. The governor, state House speaker, state Senate president pro-tempore and state Supreme Court chief justice are each allotted seven appointments to the panel.

Established by general statute in July 1993, the commission is tasked with making “continuing studies of the structure, organization, jurisdiction, procedures and personnel of the Judicial Department and of the General Court of Justice and to make recommendations to the General Assembly for such changes therein as will facilitate the administration of justice.”
