Junior guard Daneesha Briggs scored a career-high 42 points to lead her Beddingfield High varsity girls basketball to a 63-51 conquest of visiting Eastern Wayne on Tuesday.
“She was just on. She really played a good game,” said Bruins head coach Jody O’Neal.
Briggs connected on six 3-pointers and made all six of her free-throw attempts, part of a 15-of-17 evening at the line for Beddingfield.
“She just put us on her back and went to work. They were all over her and she was aggressive,” O’Neal said.
The Bruins, now 9-4 overall with their fourth consecutive victory, moved into sole possession of first place in the 2-A Neuse 6 Conference at 2-0 while the Warriors exited 6-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Pinky Marshall added eight points for Beddingfield while sophomore Shuntay Douglass netted 23 points for Eastern Wayne.
Beddingfield will visit Goldsboro on Wednesday to make up a game that was postponed last week before hosting Princeton, weather permitting, on Friday.

Knights win at PJPII, 41-40
GREENVILLE — Struggling just to have games to play of late, the Greenfield varsity girls basketball team snapped a two-game skid with a crucial 41-40 win Tuesday at Pope John Paul II Catholic High.
The 1-A Knights, now 10-4 overall, evened their 1-A/2-A Coastal Plain Independents Conference mark at 1-1 while the 2-A Saints, 15-4 overall, took their first CPIC loss after two wins. For Greenfield, it was just the fourth game in the last month.
“It’s taken us a while to get back to ourselves because we’ve missed so much time, but we had everybody back tonight and played much better,” said Greenfield head coach Bruce Wall.
Sophomore point guard Serenity McNair led the Knights, ranked third among NCISAA 1-A teams by MaxPreps.com, with 24 points to go with six assists and five steals while Jeallen Holland supplied eight points. Juliette Robles grabbed 10 rebounds and Darcy Dean snatched seven boards.
Dana Galinis netted 14 points for the Saints, No. 2 in the NCISAA 2-A rankings.
Greenfield will host Wayne Country Day, the third-ranked 2-A team, in another CPIC skirmish on Thursday. The game was originally scheduled for Friday.

WCA girls win seventh straight
RALEIGH — Behind a 16-point night from Kate Hoskins, the Wilson Christian Academy girls basketball team kept rolling Tuesday night in Raleigh, picking up a 49-39 victory over New Life Camp for its seventh consecutive victory.
The Lady Chargers (18-3) shot 62% from the field and knocked down nine 3-pointers, led by Hoskins with five. The Chargers jumped out to an 18-8 lead in the first quarter and took a 32-21 lead into halftime before closing out the victory in the second half.
Hoskins’ 16 points led Wilson Christian in the victory, followed by Jocelyn Bailey with nine. Chloe Kester led the Storm (7-6) with 10 points.
The Lady Chargers will host Cape Fear Academy Thursday.

Knights bomb Saints 92-34
GREENVILLE — Greenfield matched a season high with 13 3-pointers as the Knights won their fifth in a row with a 92-34 blowout at Pope John Paul II Catholic High on Tuesday.
The 58-point victory margin is the largest this season for the Knights, the No. 1-ranked NCISAA 1-A team by MaxPreps.com, improved to 17-5 overall and 2-0 in 1-A/2-A Coastal Plain Independents Conference play.
“We shot the ball well as a team,” Greenfield head coach Rob Salter. “We needed that. We hadn’t been shooting the ball great.”
Greenfield connected on 13-of-29 (44.8%) of its 3-point attempts and hit 15 of 18 (83.3%) from the foul line. Senior Aaron Murphy led the Knights with 18 points while junior Kyshon Atkinson and sophomore Hampton Evans each scored 16 points. Micah Sherrod added 11 points for the Knights.
Senior Jude Wisman-Raven’s 25 points paced the Saints (8-9, 2-2 CPIC).
Greenfield will host Wayne Country Day on Thursday.

Cougars beat West Craven for 1st EPC win
PINETOPS — With all 11 players scoring, the SouthWest Edgecombe varsity boys basketball notched its first 2-A Eastern Plains Conference victory of the season with a 61-53 verdict over visiting West Craven on Tuesday.
The Cougars, now 3-9 overall, rose to 1-3 in conference play as they built a 41-23 halftime lead before holding on in the second half.
“The guys had a really big second quarter. They shot the ball well and passed the ball well,” SWE head coach Mike Mosley said.
Senior Zay Mayo led the Cougars with 12 points while classmate Jamaury Whitehead totaled eight points, nine rebounds and three assists.
West Craven (3-9, 0-6 EPC) was led by Brayden Manley with 13 points.
The Cougars will visit Washington on Wednesday before hosting Farmville Central on Friday, weather permitting.

WCA boys fall to New Life Camp
RALEIGH — The Wilson Christian Academy boys basketball team could not build off its win over Fellowship Baptist Academy Monday night, falling 81-57 at New Life Camp.
Jordan Mills led the Chargers (9-9) with 20 points, followed by Will Hoskins with 11. Gabe Jones and Isaac Schramm led the Storm (10-7) with 16 points apiece, followed by Jay Pickett with 15.
Wilson Christian fell behind 22-12 in the first quarter and 48-28 at halftime, and could not mount a comeback in the second half.
The Chargers will host Union Grove Christian Friday.
