Seeds of Hope featured at Casita Brewing in June

During the June events, Casita guests can register and bid for silent auction items and buy patriotic quilt raffle tickets. Seeds of Hope notecards and coloring books will be available.

Seeds of Hope will create a raised bed box garden in the beer garden during the month of June. This demonstration garden will be used for educational purposes (and occasional nibbling).

The following events are in the brewery or beer garden. Casita is located at 217 South St.

Thursday, June 3

Paint & Pour

6:30-8:30 p.m.

Emily Howard will lead the class. For information, call Jim Howard at 252-469-3823

Saturday, June 5 and June 12

Pottery Planter Workshop

1-3 p.m.

Hand build and decorate a stoneware planter with Jim Howard and return the following Saturday, 1-3 p.m., to plant with succulents with Julia Newton and Jenny Carr. All supplies provided. Cost is $50 for both classes. To sign up, call Jim Howard at 252-469-3823.

Saturday, June 12

Musical Theater Night

7-9 p.m.

Students and friends of A Singer’s Studio will perform Broadway tunes. No cost; donations to Seeds of Hope accepted.

Sunday, June 13

SoCo Recipe Demonstration and Tasting

3-4 p.m.

Chef Jeremy Law of Greenville’s restaurant SoCo will demonstrate some seasonal herb salad dressings and provide tastings. Dressing will be available for purchase. No cost for the event. Donations to Seeds of Hope accepted.

Tuesday, June 15

Glaze Your Own Mug Workshop

6:30-8 p.m.

Decorate and glaze a Jim Howard stoneware mug. Mugs will be ready for pickup before Father’s Day. Cost is $50. To sign up, call Jim Howard 252-469-3823.

Friday, June 18

Kitchen Herbal Medicines for Everyone

6:30-8 p.m.

Learn to make safe, easy plant remedies from commonly available, inexpensive ingredients with Misty Brown. Brown will prepare and offer tastings of herbal teas, honeys and syrups and will have some of her herbal products available for sale.

Cost is a $5 donation to Seeds of Hope at the door.

Saturday, June 19

Pirate Costume Party and Contest

7-10 p.m.

Strut your stuff in costume (or not) and enjoy the fun. Cost is a $5 donation to Seeds of Hope at the door.

Friday, June 25

Fermentation Workshop 1: Vegetables. 

6-7 p.m.

Learn basic rules for fermenting vegetables with Julia Newton including different methods, food safety and ferments of different cuisines. The event will include a demonstration and tasting of homemade sauerkraut, kimchi, cucumber pickles and more. Cost is $5 donation to Seeds of Hope at the door.

Friday, June 25

Fermentation Workshop 2: Beverages. 

7-8 p.m.

The workshop includes an overview of beverage fermentation with Casita’s Pat Atkins and includes demonstrations and tastings.

Cost is a $5 donation to Seeds of Hope at the door.

Saturday, June 26

Silent Auction Display and Sale

2-6 p.m.

Make your final bids on a wide variety of silent auction items, including fine local art and pottery, gardening tools and supplies, interesting plants and seeds and much more. Tickets for a patriotic quilt made and donated by Joyce Wolfe will be sold until 5 p.m. when the winning raffle ticket will be drawn.

Saturday, June 25

Container Gardening for Sun and Shade

2-3 p.m.

Learn to select the right kinds of plants, growing medium and containers for your location with Leanne Kenealy. Learn best practices for planting and maintaining your containers. The demo containers will be available at the silent auction immediately following the class. Cost is a $5 donation to Seeds of Hope at the door.

Saturday, June 26

Growing Vegetables in Raised Beds

4-5 p.m.

Learn from Julia Newton about easy ways to grow fresh food for your family in raised beds at home. Demonstrations, handouts, and garden Q&A will be included. Cost is a $5 donation to Seeds of Hope at the door.
