Professional dancers perform Wednesday at Boykin Center
Posted on May 3, 2022
The Collage Dance Collective will bring its touring company to Wilson’s Edna Boykin Cultural Center at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 4.
The international touring company makes its Wilson Arts debut with a roster of virtuosic dancers who embody the essence of one of the nation’s fastest growing dance companies.
In its first Wilson performance, Collage Dance Collective is set to showcase a diverse range of world class dance carefully selected to embrace the moment.
The professional dance company was established in New York City in 2006 in response to the ballet industry’s lack of racial diversity on stage, according to the company’s website. Collage moved to Memphis, Tennessee, in 2009 and opened a dance conservatory to expand access to classical training.
Collage believes that participation in the arts enriches communities and is critical to economic and social development, and the dance company is committed to increasing access to outstanding ballet training and increasing diversity on professional ballet stages.
