Pageant a fundraiser for Victory Junction

Wide Awake Wilson

Deans Farm Market will present its first fundraising Strawberry Pageant during this year’s strawberry season.

The May 8 pageant will be at the farm market on N.C. 42 and starts at 11 a.m.

Alyson Sharp, 13, daughter of farm owners, James and Courtney Sharp, is currently Junior Miss Princess of North Carolina. It was her idea to start the pageant as a fundraising effort.

This year’s beneficiary is Victory Junction.

Victory Junction is Alyson’s community service platform for her current Junior Miss title. Victory Junction is a year-round camp in Randleman for children with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses.

Any funds that are raised help send a kid to the camp without worrying about the cost.

This year’s Strawberry Pageant will have two divisions: Mini Miss and Little Miss, and an added title, People’s Choice.

The People’s Choice crown will go to the contestant who raised the most money for Victory Junction.

There will be around 50 contestants in all, with approximately 25 in the two divisions.

The contestants are encouraged to wear their strawberry-wear and a smile.

The pageant is free to the public to view. Strawberry fields will be open for picking, and vendors will also be at the farm.
