Fellow musicians pay tribute to the late Jimmy Aycock
June 26 event at The Paramount
Posted on May 26, 2022
Musicians who played with Jimmy Aycock of Fremont will honor the late performer and music teacher at a memorial ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 26, at The Paramount Theatre in Goldsboro.
Aycock died Aug. 22 at age 79.
“Since that time we have been encouraged by many of Jimmy’s friends and fans to have a joyous celebration of his remarkable life,” said his brother, Tom Aycock. “As a performer and teacher, he touched thousands of lives. We want to celebrate his extraordinary talent, his ability to inspire us and his warmth and kindness to everyone he met.”
At the celebration June 26, a number of musicians who played with Jimmy over the past 60-plus years will be there to honor him by performing the music he loved so much, Tom Aycock said.
The 3rd Century Singers will perform at the memorial. Aycock, who graduated from Atlantic Christian College, now Barton, sang with them for several years and many of the past singers are returning to sing in the service.
“When asked to be a part of the tribute one of the musicians responded, ‘I would do anything for Jimmy. He was the best — a musical genius and one of the kindest people I have ever known.’ I heard similar declarations from many others I called,” Tom Aycock said.
A few family and friends will offer memories and reflections of Aycock as well.
“Our celebration will have an interesting twist. In Jimmy’s final year of life he often said, ‘If I live to see my 80th birthday, I am going to have a birthday party and invite everyone.’ Well he didn’t make it to 80,” his brother said. “But we are going to have birthday cake at the conclusion of our program to celebrate Jimmy and a life well lived.”
