SATURDAY, MAY 1

‘Hidden No More’ Opening

9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Imagination Station

224 Nash St. SE

The Morehead Planetarium is bringing VR games to Imagination Station. Help test out its latest science experiment, “Hidden No More.” At the grand opening, explore an ancient laboratory and discover the color of light. Next, jump into a laboratory at NASA to find exoplanets in space. If you can’t make it to the opening, plan to visit another day during museum hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays, 1-4 p.m.

Snake Feeding

Are you hungry for curiosity as snakes are for food? If so, come by for the biweekly snake feeding and watch as employees give the museum’s scaly friends their dinner.

May Day Celebration

8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Wilson Botanical Gardens

Celebrate May Day and all things spring in the Children’s Secret Garden. The garden’s Vollis Simpson whirligig maypole will also be decorated.

Various events are planned including a pop-up with Growin’ Green Nursery, May 5, 1-5 p.m.; visit by Westerly Gallery artist Kulsum Tasnif, May 22, 5-6 p.m.; ribbon-cutting May 25, 2-3 p.m.; and Nautilus Performance Series concert May 30, 7:30-8:30 p.m., with details to follow.

Carolinas Baseball Championship (through May 2), NCHEAC State Baseball Championship (May 7-8), Wilson Tobs Baseball Summer Games Opening Night and Thirsty Thursday (May 27), Reading Program Celebration (May 28) and Memorial Day weekend fireworks show extravaganza (May 30). The May 30 event features the Budweiser pregame band Chris Hagan.

Fabulous Fridays: Military May

5 to 7 p.m.

Imagination Station

The museum will honor military heroes of the past and present with Military May. The May 7 event will explore the history, technology and people of our nation’s armed forces. Learn about important dates and explore technology created and used by our military. This event is free.

SATURDAY, MAY 8

Maggiepalooza at the Market

10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Whirligig Park

The Maggie Society fundraiser takes place during the Wilson Farmers and Artisan Market and will include music, food trucks, adoptable dogs, silent auction and more. Casita Brewing Co. will offer a special “Maggiemosa” and “Maggie Slush Pups” for the adults.

TUESDAY, MAY 11

Preschool Science Says: Box Turtles

10 to 11 a.m.

Imagination Station

Learn about the state reptile, the eastern box turtle. Discover where the turtles like to live, what they eat and how they spend their days. Those attending can meet the museum resident box turtle, Ruth, with some of her turtle and tortoise friends.

Art Happens on Tarboro

Art Happens on Tarboro offers a variety of classes this month so participants can make an alcohol ink bamboo pendant, stained glass, 3D jewelry and a memory pendant. For information on the classes or to reserve a seat, call Kim S. Joy at 252-650-2530.
