Many places in the Triangle are closing in preparation for inclement weather Friday, including Wake County’s facilities, the Wake County Public School System and Franklin County Schools.

Wake County is closing all county facilities on Friday, Jan. 21, to protect the health and safety of its employees and customers, officials said. This includes all parks, libraries, public health clinics, waste facilities and the animal center.

The East Wake Transfer Station in Raleigh and the South Wake Landfill in Apex stayed open for an extra hour on Thursday to let residents and garbage trucks finish disposing of waste before the storm.

The Wake County Justice Center will also be closed, including the Register of Deeds office.

Emergency Management staff will continue to monitor the forecast throughout the storm, officials said.

Schools to close

WCPSS closed all schools at 6 p.m. on Thursday, including all child-care programs. The district also canceled all classes and extracurriculars on Friday and Saturday.

No make-up day will be required, officials said. Schools will use banked instructional time.

FCS also closed all schools on Friday and canceled all extracurriculars on Friday and Saturday as well.

“Although the overall impact of this weather event appears to be downgraded and we are hopeful that we will be on a normal schedule next week, we have asked that staff have students take devices home in case we need to exercise a ‘Remote Learning Day’ option,” the district said on Facebook.

It will not teach kids remotely on Friday.
