WAKE FOREST — The high school volleyball regular season wrapped up last week, and both Heritage and Wake Forest made the 4A state playoffs.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, high school volleyball was able to have a season and finish safely. Most teams didn’t make it to 14 matches as originally planned, but teams such as Heritage and Wake Forest made the minimum requirements to earn a playoff berth.

The Huskies finished the season second in the NAC 6 conference with a 9-2 overall record and 7-2 in conference play. Heritage’s only losses of the season were to the NAC 6 conference champion Corinth Holders.

The Huskies made the 4A state playoffs as a No. 12 seed. Heritage lost to South Central 3-0 (25-10, 25-21, 25-16) in the first round of the 4A state playoffs on the road Tuesday night.

Wake Forest finished the season third in the NAC 6 conference with a 6-4 overall record and 5-3 in conference play.

The Cougars made the state playoffs as the No. 15 seed. Wake Forest lost to Apex Friendship 3-0 (25-7, 25-14, 25-4) in the first round of the 4A state playoffs on the road Tuesday night.

Despite finishing second in the 3A Big East conference, Franklinton missed the 3A state playoffs. The Red Rams posted a 7-5 overall record and went 7-3 in conference play.

Franklinton’s losses were to the Big East champion Hunt and to Heritage twice and one loss to Fike.

Franklinton started the season 5-1, but lost four of its last five matches of the season.
