STEM Granville Central managed to hold off the hard-charging Louisburg Warriors in their first meeting of the season Thursday.

The two were in a battle for first place in the 1A division of the conference. The Panthers clawed out a 7-3 win over the Warriors.

Granville Central put four runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Wesley Laws led off with a single and Dylan Laws doubled to drive in Wyatt Laws.

Hunter Tressler drew a walk for the Panthers. Billy Blevins blasted a double to drive in Dylan Laws and Tressler.

Matthew Pennington came in to run for the catcher, Blevins. Meanwhile, Brendan Chamberlain singled to drive in Pennington. Aaron Faircloth entered the game as the courtesy runner for Chamberlain.

The Panthers left Faircloth stranded at the end of the inning.

Granville Central tacked on one run in the bottom of the second inning. With two outs, Wyatt Laws was hit by a pitch and stole second. Cade Currin singled and Wyatt Laws scored for the Panthers.

Louisburg battled back and put a pair of runs on the board, but Granville Central still had a 5-2 lead.

Lakin Greathouse led off the fourth inning with a walk. He advanced on a fielder’s choice and scored on a triple by Wyatt Laws.

Dylan Laws started the bottom of the fifth inning with a single and moved to second when Tressler was hit by a pitch. Blevins singled to load the bases. Chamberlain reached on an error and Dyan Laws crossed the plate to increase the lead.

Louisburg picked up one more run, but Granville Central held on for the 7-3 win.

Brendan Chamberlain was the winning pitcher. He worked 3 innings and struck out three batters. Dylan Laws earned the save, working four innings and striking out four batters.
