ROCKY MOUNT — City police have charged a septuagenarian with selling crack cocaine.

Jimmie Lancaster, 71, faces charges of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance. He was jailed under a $20,000 bond.

Officers with the Rocky Mount Police Department’s Special Operations Division and deputies with the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office executed a narcotics search warrant at 1608 Cherry St. last week, said police spokesperson Cpl. Ricky Jackson.

“The search warrant stemmed from a thorough narcotics investigation led by the Rocky Mount Police Department,” Jackson said in a release. “As a result, authorities located and seized 26.3 grams of crack cocaine, 26.4 grams of marijuana and $8,027 in U.S currency.”

Police cited and released Stepfon Cotton, 20, on a possession of marijuana charge.

RMPD Capt. Timothy Bunt said his department appreciates collaborative action from local law enforcement partners.

“The Rocky Mount Police Department Narcotics Investigation Unit and the Violent Crimes and Gangs Task Force continue to work diligently to reduce violent crimes and remove illegal narcotics from city streets,” Bunt said.
