A Johnston County grand jury on Tuesday indicted David Ricky Godwin, 74, of Selma on 25 counts of taking indecent liberties with a child.

The indictment followed an 11-month investigation by Johnston County Sheriff’s Office detectives, who suspect Godwin of taking indecent liberties with a family member between 1972 and 1977. In an email, the Sheriff’s Office said the family member was younger than 13 at the time.

Detectives arrested Godwin on Wednesday at his home on Pollock Street. He is in the Johnston County jail under a $5 million bond.
