ROCKY MOUNT — Thomas Forsberg has joined First Carolina Bank as its Atlanta market president, the bank announced Monday. He will be based in the bank’s Atlanta office on Glenridge Point Parkway scheduled to open in April.

“We have been doing banking business in Atlanta from a distance for years given our connections and experience in the market and are thrilled to have the opportunity now to launch full-service under Thomas’s leadership,” President and CEO Ron Day said.

Forsberg joins First Carolina Bank with more than 20 years of experience in the banking industry. A lifelong Georgian, he earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Georgia.

His community involvement includes serving on the board of Horizons Atlanta, the Historic Columbus Foundation, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and most recently serving as commissioner for the Columbus Regional Airport. He is also a Braves fan.

“We are very pleased to have Thomas Forsberg join the First Carolina Bank team,” said David Torres, managing director for market development in South Carolina, Georgia and western North Carolina. “His strong banking experience and his knowledge of the Atlanta market are invaluable. Behind his leadership and with First Carolina Bank’s client-first model, we look forward to a long and successful relationship with the great city of Atlanta!”

First Carolina Bank is a state-chartered bank headquartered in Rocky Mount with $1.4 billion in assets under management as of Dec. 31. The bank’s service area stretches from Virginia Beach to Atlanta, with full-service branches in Rocky Mount, Raleigh, Cary, Wilmington, Reidsville and Virginia Beach.

“We will be making significant investments through Thomas and David to further establish all our business line platforms of commercial banking and wealth management, commercial real estate banking and consumer banking in our marquee new office and look forward to years of service to the communities of the greater metro Atlanta area,” Day said.

Keefe, Bruyette and Woods ranked First Carolina the nation’s fastest organically growing bank from 2016-20.
