SPRING HOPE — A man with a history of violence stands accused of killing his mother in their home Wednesday.

Joshua Frazier, 33, faces a charge of first-degree murder in the death of 60-year-old Mildred Allen Frazier, who was found fatally stabbed around 10 a.m. at 308 N. Walnut St.

Police Chief Nathan Gant said officers responding to a medical emergency call found the woman dead in a back bedroom of the house. She had been stabbled or cut several times in her upper body, Gant said.

Police have responded to the house nine times since Frazier moved into the house with his family around two years ago, including an incident in which Frazier assaulted officers serving an involuntary commitment and another time when he chased a family member around the neighborhood with a knife.

Frazier served three years in prison for a 2015 conviction of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He was paroled in 2017, according to the N.C. Department of Public Safety.

Police took Frazier into custody at the home Wednesday morning. He’s being held without bond in the Nash County Detention Center pending arraignment on the murder charge.

“At this time, a motive for the incident is unknown,” Gant said.

The Nash County Sheriff’s Office assisted with processing of the crime scene. The murder weapon has been recovered, Gant said.

“This was an isolated incident, with no ongoing threat to the public or surrounding community,” Gant said.

Gant asks anyone with informaton in the case to contact Detective T. Bell at 252-478-5197 or twbell@springhope.net.
