Police arrest 18 in sweeping drug probe

ROCKY MOUNT — City police working together with local and federal authorities have made 18 arrests as part of a monthslong narcotics operation.

“These arrests are the result of citizen complaints, tips and a lot of outstanding investigative work by the Rocky Mount Police Department’s Special Operations Division,” said Rocky Mount Police Chief Robert Hassell. “I appreciate the assistance of our law enforcement partners who participated in the apprehension of these individuals. Illegal drug activities and sales negatively affect our community. The Rocky Mount Police Department will continue efforts to make our streets and communities safer.”

As part of Operation Fresh Start, police officers conducted drug investigations to improve city residents’ quality of life, said Cpl. Ricky Jackson, public information officer for the Rocky Mount Police Department.

Law enforcement officials executed a search warrant in the 300 block of South Tillery Street, seizing more than 147 grams (about 5.2 ounces) of marijuana and crack cocaine.

Suspect Dangelo Williams, 30, wasn’t at home during the search. Police obtained arrest warrants charging him with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, possession of cocaine, maintaining a dwelling place for a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police arrested the following individuals during Operation Fresh Start:

• Brittany Coley is charged with possession of heroin, felony breaking and entering, assault and battery and probation violation.

• Larry Darnell Draughn is charged with possession of cocaine.

• Lacy Gonzalez is charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

• Anthony Blake Hardy is charged with trafficking heroin.

• Jamar Anthony Hedgepeth is charged with selling and delivering methamphetamine.

• Heather Hucks is charged with possession of cocaine.

• Arthur Maurice James is charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine.

• Yasisn Nasir Jones is charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin, possession of heroin, maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance and conspiracy.

• Antoine Markee Mitchell is charged with four counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine.

• Amanda Overton is charged with possession of cocaine.

• Jalen Peace is charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver a counterfeit controlled substance.

• Stephen Craig Pendergrass is charged with possession of heroin.

• Williams Thomas Pridgen is charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin.

• Lennon Fay Reaves is charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine.

• Deloris Speight is charged with selling and delivering heroin.

• Timothy Thomas is charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine.

• Justin Vester is charged with possession of heroin.

• Timothy Young is charged with possession of cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance and conspiracy.

Rocky Mount police received assistance from the Nash County and Edgecombe County sheriffs’ offices, the Nashville Police Department, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s investigations division and the U.S. Marshals Service Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force.
