Police: 11-year-old injured in Rocky Mount shooting

ROCKY MOUNT — City police on Sunday were investigating a shooting from the night before that injured an 11-year-old boy.

Officers responded to a shooting with injury in the 1700 block of Lafayette Circle around 8:35 p.m. on Saturday, said Cpl. Ricky Jackson, public information officer for the Rocky Mount Police Department.

“When officers arrived, they located an 11-year-old male who sustained a superficial head injury from the incident,” Jackson said in a news release.

The shooting occurred near the intersection of Westwood Drive and York Street. Nash County EMS personnel took the boy to Nash UNC Health Care for further treatment, Jackson said.

The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Rocky Mount Police Department at 252-972-1411 or Twin County Crime Stoppers at 252-977-1111.
