Ladybirds shut out Bunn to stay unbeaten

The Southern Nash High girls tennis team collected its fourth win without a loss Thursday afternoon with a 9-0 victory over 2-A/3-A Big East rival Bunn.

Southern Nash, a 3-A member of the split league, improved to 3-0 in conference play.

Sophomore Hannah Mennig, junior Amber Patterson, junior Anna Brooks Murray, sophomore Maura Kennedy, junior Dari’elle Whitley and sophomore Mackenzie Kennedy swept their respective singles matches and added a trio of doubles triumphs.

The Ladybirds return to play Tuesday by hosting Rocky Mount.

Ladybirds still looking for first win

ROANOKE RAPIDS — Southern Nash remained winless through four matches with a 25-10, 25-6, 25-21 loss Thursday at Roanoke Rapids.

No individual statistics were available for the 3-A Ladybirds, who dropped to 0-2 in The Big East 2-A/3-A Conference.

The Yellow Jackets exited with their first conference win after an opening loss as they upped their ledger to 2-1.

Southern Nash continues Big East play at home Tuesday against Louisburg.

Firebirds win 5th straight

KNIGHTDALE — Three players scored goals for Southern Nash as the Firebirds pushed their winning streak to five with a 3-2 nonconference win at Knightdale on Aug. 31.

Jared Gonzalez scored a goal and made an assist for Southern Nash, which improved to 5-2, while Raul Nunez and Kevin Dominguez each added goals. Frank Gonzalez had an assist. Goalkeeper Alex Benitez made three saves.

Scoring for the Knights (2-4-1) of the 4-A Northern Athletic Conference were David Cervantes and Michael Perez.

The 3-A Firebirds kick off Big East 2-A/3-A Conference play Tuesday at 2-A Nash Central.

Ladybirds drop Big East opener

Facing in-county foe Nash Central as a conference opponent for the first time in four years, the Southern Nash High varsity volleyball team found the going arduous in a 25-17, 25-17, 25-16 defeat Aug. 31.

Southern Nash, a 3-A member of The Big East Conference, remained winless through three matches while Nash Central, a 2-A program in the split league, climbed to 5-0.

Junior Natalie Price had three kills and two aces for the Ladybirds, with freshman Carlee Beckham adding a pair of kills and three aces.

Surging Southern Nash conquers Union Pines 3-1

CARY — Three players found the back of the net for the Southern Nash High varsity boys soccer team Aug. 27 as the Firebirds cinched their fourth straight victory with a 3-1 win over Cameron Union Pines in the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association Kick-Off Classic at WakeMed Soccer Park.

Senior Jared Gonzalez, senior Raul Nunez and sophomore Frank Gonzalez each scored for the Firebirds (4-2), 3-A members of the split 2-A/3-A The Big East Conference. In goal, freshman Alex Benitez collected five saves.

Union Pines, a 3-A program in the 3-A/4-A Sandhills Conference, slipped to 1-3-2.
