ROCKY MOUNT — Senior police officer Daryl Jones and fire Capt. David Winstead have been recognized by the Rocky Mount Lions Club as the city’s police officer and firefighter of the year.
Jones and Winstead were chosen by their coworkers for the respective honors.
Jones' excellent work ethic, quick response to calls, relationships with coworkers and residents are just some of the qualities that his peers recognized while nominating him for officer of the year, said Police Chief Robert Hassell.
“Officer Jones has been with us since 2016 and has excelled in every position that he has held in the Rocky Mount Police Department,” Hassell said during a presentation at Monday’s City Council meeting.
Jones is currently assigned as a narcotics investigator with the special operations division.
Winstead has been with the Rocky Mount Fire Department for nearly 31 years. He has served as the lead captain of the department’s technical emergency response team, as well as the primary rope-rescue instructor for the recruit academy.
“He is the epitome of what a fire captain should be in the Rocky Mount Fire Department,” said Fire Chief Corey Mercer.
