Firebirds open soccer playoffs with win

Southern Nash kept its boys soccer season going Monday night, opening the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 3-A playoffs with a 4-1 home win over Cape Fear of Fayetteville.

Alex Benitez made two saves in net for the Firebirds. Jonny Robles led the way with a goal and an assist, while Sam Weathon, Frank Gonzalez and Jared Gonzalez also scored, and Raul Nunez III added an assist.

Southern Nash will host Southern Lee in the playoffs’ second round.
