STANHOPE — Behind a two-hitter from Anna Dickinson and a big first inning, the Southern Nash High softball team advanced to the second round of the NCHSAA 3-A playoffs with a 5-1 win over J.H. Rose on Tuesday.

Dickinson struck out 19 in her complete game two-hitter to keep the 3-A Ladybirds (20-2) of the 2-A/3-A Big East Conference ahead of the 3-A Rampants (8-13) of the 3-A/4-A Big Carolina Conference.

The Ladybirds jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, giving Dickinson more than enough offense. Freshman Carlee Beckham put Southern Nash on the board with her first career varsity home run, a two-run shot, and freshman Kelsey Jones added an RBI single.

Southern Nash will host 12-seed Person, which beat 21-seed West Harnett 10-0 Tuesday, on Friday.
