At 7:50 a.m., officers with the Rocky Mount Police Department responded to 4301 Layola Ave. to assist EMS, according to a press release from Kirk Brown, the city's director of communications, marketing and public relations.

Nash County EMS located a 65-year-old deceased man identified as Adrain Battle.

The department's Criminal Investigation Division and Crime Scene Unit were called to the scene for further investigation, Brown said.

"The preliminary investigation has determined the death to be suspicious," Brown said.
