3-sport athlete helps Ladybirds soar

Maura Kennedy

Maura Kennedy plays soccer for the Ladybirds at Southern Nash High School and is The Enterprise’s Farris & Thomas Law Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.

Kennedy plays defense on the soccer team. She also plays tennis and basketball.

Tennis season highlights include a singles with for Southern Nash in the regular-season finale, a 9-0 defeat of Franklinton on Oct. 6, an 8-6 doubles win with partner Amber Patterson in an Oct. 5 clash with Northern Nash and singles and doubles wins in a Sept. 28 match with Bunn.

Kennedy and sister Mackenzie Kennedy posted singles and doubles wins for the Ladybirds in a 6-2 win over Nash Central on Sept. 16.

Southern Nash’s girls tennis team finished the regular season 9-4 overall and 8-4 in the 2-A/3-A Big East Conference, good for third place.

A 16-year-old sophomore, Kennedy plans to be an athletic trainer after high school and college.
