ROCKY MOUNT — Two people died in a Sunday morning crash on a wintry Interstate 95, according to the N.C. State Highway Patrol.

Latron K. Williams and Katie Jo Brainard Janta, both 41 and from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, died when Williams lost control of his Honda CRV at mile marker 132. The stretch of I-95 is near Sandy Cross Road in the Coopers community of southern Nash County.

The wreck occurred around 7:30 a.m. when the Honda left the road, hitting trees in the median.

Both Willaims and Janta were pronounced dead at the scene.

Exceeding a safe speed for current winter storm conditions contributed to the crash, according to a statement from Highway Patrol 1st Sgt. Christopher Knox.
