OXFORD — South Granville rolled to a 43-0 win over J.F. Webb on Thursday night.
The Warriors celebrated senior night before to the start of the content. On the opening drive, the Vikings marched down the field with Micah Wilkerson carrying the ball for much of the drive.
Khawan Bobbitt rolled to the right and tucked the ball in as he crossed the goal line to put the Vikings on the board. Bobbitt executed a 2-point conversion for the Vikings.
Leading 8-0, the Vikings kicked to Jaheim Heartsfield at the 21-yard line. The Warriors couldn’t move the ball and had to punt back to the Vikings.
Wilkerson fielded the punt and returned it to the Webb 38-yard line.
The Vikings needed just four plays, featuring Wilkerson, to score. He ran the ball in from 3 yards out.
Jackson Erwin added the extra point for South Granville, giving the Vikings a 15-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
In the next quarter, Webb found its offensive footing and picked up a pair of first downs before Nehemiah Hunter and Jaydon Crabtree hurried Javon Bullock in the backfield.
Bullock attempted to toss the ball to the running back, but it fell short and Ethen Josselin recovered the bouncing ball.
The Vikings went to work on the ground again with Wilkerson, Sha’king Allah, and Traevon White running the ball.
With the ball on the 2-yard line, Crabtee burst through the end zone for a touchdown. Erwin added the extra point and the Vikings led 22-0.
Webb looked poised to score after Bullock’s 56-yard run. Leroy Carroll raced to catch up with Bullock and tackled him in the red zone. But South Granville’s defense stopped Webb and forced a field goal attempt that fell well short of its mark.
The Vikings got the ball back at the 20-yard line with less than two minutes on the clock.
After a couple of running plays, Bobbitt stepped back in the pocket and spotted Sean Peterson in single coverage. Bobbitt fired away and Peterson cradled the ball all the way to the end zone. The 70-yard pass play and Erwin’s extra point gave the Vikings a 29-0 lead at the half.
Both teams needed a jump-start on offense in the third quarter — it was just a matter of who would catch that spark first.
After trading punts, the Vikings were ignited by their special team’s play. Wilkerson fielded a punt and raced 54 yards down the field for a touchdown. Erwin was true with the extra point. The Vikings had 36 points against the still-scoreless Warriors.
South Granville’s defense continued to stifle any offense the Warriors found. Ikeem Hunt’s punt rolled dead at the 28-yard line.
The Vikings went to work on the ground with Wilkerson, Allah, Bobbitt and White running the ball.
White scored his first touchdown of the season on a 14-yard burst around the right side. Erwin converted his fifth extra point of the game putting the Viking’s 43rd point on the board.
With the continuous clock running, the Warriors needed offense. Bullock dropped back to pass, but Micah Morton intercepted a throw intended for Heartsfield.
The Vikings were content to run out the clock and sail away for a 43-0 win over Webb.
South Granville moved to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in conference action. Webb is 0-6 on the season.
The Vikings will host Granville Central at 7 p.m. on April 9. This will also be senior night for South Granville.
