CREEDMOOR — Family and friends surrounded Keith Gardner, Megan Ellis and Savannah Thompson on Wednesday as they signed their letters of intent to further their athletic careers.

Gardner plans on attending and playing baseball for Coppin State University in Baltimore.

Gardner, a senior, has a career .339 batting average for the South Granville Vikings. He has 37 hits, 38 RBIs and has scored 23 times. He had four home runs during his junior year, including one grand slam. In the field, Gardner either plays first or third base for the Vikings.

Ellis signed her letter of intent to attend and play softball for North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro.

Ellis, a two-sport athlete, plays volleyball and softball for the Lady Vikings.

Ellis has a career .380 batting average, with 27 hits and 23 RBIs. She has scored 20 runs for South Granville. Ellis has played outfield, first base and pitched for the Lady Vikings.

Thompson, another two-sport athlete, will play softball at N.C. Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount.

Thompson also played volleyball for South Granville. A senior, she has a career .390 batting average, with 39 hits and 33 RBIs. She has scored 14 runs; included in that number are her seven home runs.

Thompson has been the starting catcher in each of the 37 games she has played for South Granville.
