BUTNER — Authorities said Friday they have charged a 17-year-old in connection to a shooting and attempted robbery at the Twin Circles mobile home park earlier in the week. 

The teen, who was not identified because of their age, was arrested Friday by Butner Public Safety without incident, a press release said. 

Officers recovered a stolen gun that is believed to have been used in Tuesday’s shooting. 

Around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, Butner Public Safety responded to a call of a person shot at Family Fare at 110 Central Ave., police said. 

The victim, who police have identified as Benjamin Garcia of Butner, had driven himself to that store after being shot in the leg at the mobile home park, the release said. He was taken to a hospital for treatment. 

Police determined a house and a vehicle were also struck by gunfire, Friday’s press release said. No other injuries were reported. The mobile home park is at 800 E. C St.

Police described the shooting as an armed robbery attempt at the time. Police said investigation led to the 17-year-old being named a suspect.  

Sgt. N. Williams obtained juvenile petitions charging the juvenile with one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, one count of firing into an occupied or moving vehicle, one count of firing into an occupied dwelling, possession of a stolen firearm, and attempted larceny from the person.  

The teen is being held at a juvenile detention facility, police said.
