CREEDMOOR — Families and friends filled the stands at South Granville High School on Friday, June 10 to see the graduates in their shining moment.
Many of those in attendance said they were disappointed that it appeared the graduates were rushed across the stage.
One parent, who wished to remain anonymous said, “It looked like the principal was handing off a football instead of a diploma to the graduates. These kids have worked hard to get that diploma, but they did not get graduation they deserved.”
After 116 candidates for graduation filed into the stadium, Valedictorian Rebecca Snyder and Salutatorian Tristan Kirksey led the Pledge of Allegiance. Lacie Shelly and Arianna Dickey sang the National Anthem and later provided a special musical presentation.
Kirksey said, “Try not to pity what we have lost; instead look at what you have gained over the last four years. You may have more new friends and experiences you will never forget.”
Snyder said, “We have put our blood, sweat and tears into South Granville, and through that fight we all have all gained strengths in a multitude of different ways. Strengths in advocating when we pushed to keep South Granville and continue its legacy. In leading and working in teams, when we helped to rebuild South Granville’s various programs and overall culture.”
Snyder told the graduates to take risks, try new things, put yourself out there and follow your dreams.
Alisa McLean, superintendent of Granville County Public Schools, pronounced the class of 2022 graduates.
