The National Weather Service in Raleigh issued a winter weather advisory for Friday and Saturday, warning of the potential for snow and ice to accumulate. 

A wintry mix of snow, sleet and rain is forecasted as early as 1 a.m. Friday in Wake, Franklin, Granville, Vance and Durham counties and other counties along the Piedmont. 

It’s possible that for a few hours early Friday, only snow will fall, leading to 1-2 inches of snow accumulation, the Weather Service said. Less snow is expected in the southeast of the advisory area, including Wake County. 

Friday afternoon, the snow will turn into a cold rain. That could change back to snow Friday night through as late as 1 a.m. Saturday. 

Slick roads and hazardous driving conditions should be expected Friday morning and afternoon.

Low temperatures Friday night will be 31 degrees and on Saturday temperatures will fall to 27 degrees.
