Butner — Robert Howard Aiken, 100, of Butner, passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2021. Born in Durham County, he was the son of the late Hasten Howard Aiken and Bessie Oakley Aiken. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Mae Jackson Aiken; his daughter, Brenda Aiken; three grandchildren.

Mr. Aiken proudly served in the United States Army during WWII in the Service Battery 368 Field Artillery in the Pacific Theater. He was deployed to Japan and served as a Military Police Officer. Mr. Aiken was a proud WWII Veteran and would be honored to serve again. After serving his country, he became a licensed practical nurse and retired from John Umstead Hospital. Throughout his career he loved being able to help others. Mr. Aiken was of the Primitive Baptist faith.

Surviving are his four children: Linda Brady, Alice Tuck, Tim Aiken and Tony Aiken; one brother, Edison E. Aiken; ten grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be held 2 PM Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at South Granville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Robert Oliver officiating.
