The Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Association of Granville and Person Counties planted a Bloodgood Japanese Maple at Camp Oak Hill, Oxford, in memory of the late Ben Cifers on Nov. 18, 2021. After retirement, Cifers discovered his love for plants and took the Extension Master Gardener training under the late Carl Cantaluppi. Cifers was an active member of the association and an avid nurseryman. He and his wife, Joyce, owned and operated Dalton Mill Nursery in Bullock, N.C., which Joyce still operates. Cifer enjoyed growing Japanese Maples, and according to his wife, Bloodgood was his favorite cultivar. Along with his love for growing plants, Cifer will be remembered for his wit and outgoing personality. Contributed photo
