<p>CREEDMOOR &#x2014; City officials said they would like to find more ways to partner with a community transportation system to help residents get around town. </p> <p>The Creedmoor Board of Commissioners seemed open to the idea after hearing from Irene Johnson, the executive director of Kerr Area Rural Transportation System, at its meeting Tuesday. </p> <p>KARTS provides transit options in Franklin, Granville, Vance and Warren counties. Johnson said despite public perception, KARTS doesn&#x2019;t just provide rides to medical appointments. Citizens regularly schedule rides for simple errands like going to a grocery store. </p> <p>Before the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, KARTS provided more than 14,000 rides in Granville, Franklin, Vance and Warren counties. In Granville County alone, KARTS provided 769 trips to people needing transportation to work and over 400 trips to senior centers.</p> <p>The commissioners said they would like to look into options for improving access to the service in Creedmoor by partnering with KARTS. </p> <p>It was one item the board touched on during a lengthy meeting this week. </p> <p>The architecture firm working on the Creedmoor Community Center project went over costs associated with construction. Bill McCaffrey, who works for the firm, said construction came in at $5.8 million, which hasn&#x2019;t yet all been billed to the city. </p> <p>McCaffrey said there will be a one-year warranty on the facility, although there are punch list items that have not been completed.</p> <p>Chris Horrigan, recreation director for Creedmoor, presented a comprehensive vision for the ongoing development and improvement of recreation opportunities.</p> <p>Horrigan said there had been focus groups and a community survey to help shape everything from the hours to operation to the programs being developed and offered by the recreation department.</p> <p>Horrigan said there would be the need for additional part-time staffing. He pointed out that the city could save or redirect money if it eliminated the contracted staff at Lake Rogers and converted those positions into part-time staff.</p> <p>The recreation department is working to develop programming for all ages that would include arts, music, cooking classes, photography, E-sports, movie and quiz nights.</p> <p>Horrigan presented a new fee structure for the commissioners to review.</p> <p>Interim City Manager Mike Turner was recognized for his accomplishments during his tenure. Mayor Bobby Wheeler read a proclamation citing his efforts that have gone above and beyond what was expected.</p> <p>Wheeler proclaimed March 2, 2021, as Michael O&#x2019;Briant Turner day in the City of Creedmoor.</p> <p>The board approved the draft lease for space at the 109 Park Ave. location and gave Alan Steinbeck, contractor for the city,  permission to continue talks with potential tenants including a private medical practice and The Help Center N.C.</p> <p>Steinbeck also identified space needed for the Veterans Service Office and the Community Development department.</p> <p>Commissioners directed the city attorney, T.C. Morphis, to talk with the county about selling the co-owned property at 122 Pecan St. If approved the property would be placed for sale using the upset bid process.</p> <p>The property owner would be required to clean up a significant amount of surface debris and the land must remain undeveloped open space in perpetuity.</p> <p>Commissioner approved an ordinance change on the sequence of items on the agenda. The board moved old business and new business action items ahead of discussion items. The items will be listed in chronological order on the agenda.</p> <p>The change was requested to allow residents to better see how the board voted on matters instead of waiting long periods of time to get to the heart of the meeting.</p> <p>Commissioners also approved:</p> <p>&#x2022; Zoning text amendments.</p> <p>&#x2022; The large site plan for Creedmoor Office Park off of Douglas Drive.</p> <p>&#x2022; The Golden Pond stormwater engineering project not to exceed $44,000.</p> <p>&#x2022; The reappointment of Dennis Daniel and Nicole Martin to the Board of Adjustment.</p> <p>&#x2022; The reappointment of Dennis Lester and Robert Gorham as ETJ representatives on the Planning Board, pending county approval.</p> <p>&#x2022; The reappointment of Steve Faucette and appointment of Jonelle Marable to the Planning Board.</p> <p>&#x2022; Renaming the 109 Park Ave. facility to the Creedmoor Opportunity Center.</p> <p>&#x2022; 401A retirement plan required by the incoming city manager. Other city employees may participate in the plan as well.</p> <p>&#x2022; The Veterans Services Office agreement with specifications that the city will pay for the relocation of the office in the Creedmoor Opportunity Center when space is available.</p> <p>Creedmoor will hold its strategic planning meeting at 9 a.m. on March 20.</p>

City hopes to partner on transportation

<p>CREEDMOOR &#x2014; The Granville County Chamber of Commerce said it will shutter its south office next month in order to cut costs. </p> <p>The Creedmoor office, at 1598 N.C. Highway 56, will be shut down on April 15 and its operations will be moved to the main office in Oxford, at 124 Hillsboro St. </p> <p>&#x201C;Unfortunately, COVID-19 has negatively impacted many of our Chamber member businesses and it has also impacted the Chamber office,&#x201D; the organization said in a press release. &#x201C;Like many of you the Chamber is restructuring and &#x2018;tightening our belts.&#x2019;&#x201D;</p> <p>The decision was made last month by the Chamber&#x2019;s board of directors. </p> <p>The chamber plans to reschedule its annual meeting for this spring, after postponing it in January. </p> <p>&#x201C;We look forward to continuing to work alongside each of our chamber member businesses to make Granville County a great place to live and work,&#x201D; the chamber said. </p>

Granville Chamber to close south office

<p><span class="CharOverride-2">CREEDMOOR &#x2014; Authorities are investigating after someone stole the catalytic converters from two vehicles at Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church. </span></p> <p><span class="CharOverride-2">The Granville County Sheriff&#x2019;s Office said the parts were taken from vehicles parked at the  church, 2197 Moss Hayes Road, midday on Feb. 16. </span></p> <p><span class="CharOverride-2">The sheriff&#x2019;s office said it is also investiating after a 7-by-10-foot carry-on utility trailer was stolen from Tripletts Automotive, 1640 N.C. Highway 50, in the afternoon on Feb. 24. </span></p> <p><span class="CharOverride-2">Granville County Crime Stoppers said it is offering rewards of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest in both cases. </span></p> <p><span class="CharOverride-2">Anyone with information is asked to call the Granville County Sheriff&#x2019;s Office at 919-693-3213 or Crime Stoppers at 919-693-3100.
