CREEDMOOR — South Granville said farewell to its graduating players with a 3-0 thrashing against its cross-town rivals at Granville Central on Oct. 14.
Before the start of the match, seniors Destini Bland, Trinity Branche and Megan Ellis each received a thunderous ovation for their commitment to and efforts for the volleyball program.
The rivals finally took the court and played an even first set until Branche scored with a kill.
The Lady Vikings got a tip from Madison Staton and Samantha Piotrowski served a winner. Granville Central countered with Alexa Riley scoring.
Ellis’ back-to-back kills gave South Granville a 15-7 lead.
South Granville continued to get points from Branche, Staton and Ellis and closed the first set with a 25-10 win.
Bland powered South Granville to a 7-0 lead early in the second set. The Lady Panthers finally scored when the Lady Vikings fell into the net.
South Granville went back to work with Ellis scoring with a kill. Piotrowski added to her totals with a kill.
Trailing 15-1, Granville Central called a timeout. Back on the court, Bland and the Lady Vikings continued to hammer away at the net.
Granville Central managed to break serve and Shiyera Harcum delivered a winner for the Lady Panthers.
After a tip by Jada Green, Granville Central looked poised to make a run, but an ace by Serenity Jordan slowed the Lady Panthers.
South Granville claimed the second set 25-6.
Granville Central scored first in the third set, but Ellis’ kill put South Granville back in control of the set. Piotrowski’s back row attack and Chaleigh Currin’s ace gave the Lady Vikings a 10-4 lead.
Ayani Bagley scored for the Lady Panthers, but South Granville continued to work at the net with Branche and Currin scoring.
South Granville closed the third set and match with a 25-12 score.
The teams then treated fans to a fun unofficial fourth set. There wasn’t an official score, but the teams bonded with fans cheering for both teams.
Granville Central finished the season with a 0-18 overall record and 0-12 in conference play. South Granville finished with an 8-8 overall record and 8-4 in conference action.
