STEM — Hannah Lynch, Granville Central’s lone senior, was honored prior to the start of the May 5 contest against South Granville.
The Lady Vikings picked up three runs in the first inning.
Maddie Gerovac singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. Savannah Thompson singled and Gerovac scored. Ayden Koonce entered the game at the courtesy runner for Thompson.
Candace Strombeck reached first on an error and Koonce moved to third. Savannah Norton singled to drive in Koonce.
Kylyn Dean singled to score Strombeck for a 3-0 lead.
Granville Central struggled at the plate and could not generate any offense.
The Lady Vikings added 11 runs in the top of the second inning.
Chaleigh Currin led off with a double and Georgia Preddy followed with a triple. Currin scored on the play. Gerovac reached on an error and Preddy scored for a 5-0 lead.
Megan Ellis singled to score Gerovac and Thompson reached on an error. Ellis scored on the play. Koonce entered to run for Thompson and stole second base for the Lady Vikings.
Norton singled and Koonce moved to third base. Dean singled to score Koonce.
Maddie Wilkins doubled to score Norton. Currin hit a home run during her second time at bat for South Granville.
Preddy hit a double and Gerovac drew a walk for the Lady Vikings. Ellis doubled to clear the bases for South Granville and give the Lady Vikings a 14-0 lead.
Once again the Lady Panthers had a difficult time getting the bat on the ball and could not get a runner on base.
South Granville scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning with Currin leading off with a single. She then stole second. Preddy singled and Currin scored for the Lady Vikings.
Gerovac was safe at first on an error and Preddy scored on the play. Ellis followed with a walk. Gerovac and Ellis advanced a base on a wild pitch.
Thompson hit a sacrifice fly to left field and Gerovac tagged on the catch and scored.
With two outs, Hockaday reached on an error that scored Ellis for an 18-0 lead.
Granville Central was unable to respond and the Lady Vikings claimed the win.
Chaleigh Currin was the winning pitcher. She walked two and struck out seven batters.
