CREEDMOOR — Falls Lake Academy needed just three sets to send Riverside packing in the first round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1A volleyball tournament.

The Lady Firebirds won Tuesday night’s match 25-8, 25-10 and 25-8.

Falls Lake used aggressive attacks at the net by Anna Holcombe, Jenelle Mason, Chase Teal and Macey Sammons and pinpoint serving by Austin Proctor, Gracey Sammons and Morgan Newton to claim the first two sets.

The Lady Knights came into the match with some of their key players not making the trip and the inexperience showed at times in the third set.

Macey Sammons rose up for a quick kill and Teal followed with a kill to the back line.

Mason scored to give Falls Lake a 9-6 lead on a pounding kill, but Riverside would not give up.

Teal served an ace and Mason followed with a kill to push the lead to 12-6.

A string of unforced errors by the Lady Knights gave the Lady Firebirds a 17-6 lead.

Holcombe tapped the ball over for a point and later punched the ball to the corner for a point to increase the lead to 19-6.

Mason added a kill down the center of the court and Falls Lake was well on its way to winning the third set with a 25-8 score.

No statistics were available at press time.

Falls Lake moved to 9-2 overall and advanced to the second round of the playoffs with the win.

The Lady Firebirds, the No. 1 seed in 1A. will host Lakewood, the No. 9 seed from Roseboro, at 6 p.m. Thursday.

The winner of this match will face either Louisburg or East Wake Academy on Saturday, Jan. 16.
