BUTNER — King Street residents asked the Butner Town Council for help to have street lights and additional signage at the entrance of their street installed during the town council meeting on Jan. 7.
Residents also said that trucks delivering to the Ritchie Brothers yard often mistake the service road they live on for the turn to Ritchie Brothers. They said the trucks often knock down mailboxes and leaves deep ruts on the shoulders of the service road.
Town manager Tommy Marrow offered some additional information on the matter in his monthly report. Marrow said he had contacted Wake Electric on behalf of the residents and learned there are basically three options for street lights. Two options were on private property and the third option would cost approximately $1,400 for a transformer and the residents would have a monthly lighting bill. Marrow said the residents did not like that idea.
Marrow also said that the N.C. Department of Transportation has installed a sign “No Tractor Trailers Allowed’ at the entrance to the service road.
In other town news, the finance department received the Award of Financial Reporting Achievement for the second year in a row. The award is presented by the Government Finance Officers Association of the U.S. and Canada.
