<p>OXFORD &mdash;&nbsp;County officials say they plan to celebrate completing the third phase of Granville Athletic Park at the same time Granville County celebrates its 275th anniversary.&nbsp;</p>
<p>New features being added to GAP should wrap up in the coming weeks. But county staff felt that weather would delay a dedication event for the park until June or July, County Manager Michael Felts told the county Board of Commissioners at its April 5 meeting.&nbsp;</p>
<p>That delay turned into an opportunity: The county could combine the park dedication with the upcoming 275th anniversary celebration, tentatively planned for July 24 at the park.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Felts floated the idea by commissioners, many of whom said they felt it was a great idea.&nbsp;</p>
<p>&ldquo;I personally think it would be very momentous to have it on the same data as all the work that has gone into the 275th anniversary celebration,&rdquo; Commissioner Russ May said.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Felts said it wouldn&rsquo;t be more work to have both events at the same time. The county would likely stagger the programs and hold them at different sections of the park.&nbsp;</p>
<p>&ldquo;I think it may be a dual-drawing card if more people will come look at the Phase 3 as well as our 275th anniversary,&rdquo; Commissioner David Smith said.</p>
<p>Phase 3 of GAP will include tennis courts, sand volleyball, inclusive playground, outdoor fitness equipment, and cornhole pads, according to the county&rsquo;s website.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The park is at 4615 Belltown Road, Oxford.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Granville County is celebrating its 275th anniversary this year with several events that will culminate in the summer program at the park.&nbsp;</p>
<h5><strong>Other business</strong></h5>
<p>The commissioners did not adopt a 5-year strategic plan at the meeting as expected.&nbsp;</p>
<p>County staff had submitted a draft of the plan, which details the primary goals county officials hope to accomplish, to commissioners for review. While commissioners were schedule to vote on its approval, that vote was postponed to the April 19 meeting.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Commissioners May and Jimmy Gooch, the newest members on the board, had asked for more time to review the document.&nbsp;</p>
<p>&ldquo;I was not here when the 2018 comprehensive plan was done, and so, although the material is very comprehensive, I wanted a little more time to review the underlining documents that support those objectives,&rdquo; May said.&nbsp;</p>
<p>He said he may want to recommend changes before the document is approved.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Also at the meeting, commissioners:&nbsp;</p>
<p>&bull; Issued a proclamation recognizing multiple sclerosis awareness.&nbsp;</p>
<p>&bull; Issued a proclamation recognizing National County Government Month.&nbsp;</p>
<p>&bull; Passed a resolution in support of the Kerr Lake Regional Water Treatment Plant project.&nbsp;</p>
<p>&bull; Approved spending $32,250 on furniture for government offices at 104 Belle St., Oxford.&nbsp;</p>
<p>&bull; Approved a new full-time veteran service technician position to assist the county with veteran service needs. The position will cost an estimated $47,217 a year.&nbsp;</p>

<p>CREEDMOOR &mdash; A contractor working for the state will repave several highways around Creedmoor next week.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The resurfacing work is expected to be done overnight to reduce any disruption to traffic.&nbsp;</p>
<p>N.C. Highway 56 (Wilton Avenue) between Hayes and Moss Hayes roads are scheduled to be resurfaced, as is U.S. Highway 15 (Durham Avenue) in Creedmoor.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Crews will start work Monday, April 12, and should wrap up by Friday, city officials said.&nbsp;</p>
<p>During the evening hours, there will be regular lane closures. Drivers should watch for crews, the city of Creedmoor said in a press release.</p>
<p>Carolina Sunrock of Butner was hired by the N.C. Department of Transportation to do the resurfacing from the Franklin County line to Durham Avenue in Creedmoor. Crews already started resurfacing the highway near Franklin County and have been working west toward Creedmoor.&nbsp;</p>
