Butner Public Safety report: May 13-20

Crime

The following is a list of incidents and arrests from May 13-20 by Butner Public Safety officers. All information is from public law enforcement records.
May 13
• Property damage was reported on West B Street. The perpetrator damaged the victim’s vehicle.    
May 14
• A hit and run was reported on East C Street.  The vehicle was involved in an accident, and the occupants of the vehicle left prior to officers arriving on scene.  
May 17
• PSO M. B. Butler arrested Lauriano Contanza Cruz, 40, of Creedmoor, for an outstanding warrant for careless and reckless driving, speeding, and failure to wear a seat belt. Cruz was issued a secured bond of $500 by Magistrate H. G. Herring Jr. and placed in the Granville County Detention Center.  
• An assault was reported on 22nd Street. As a result of the incident, PSO D. Toral arrested Gery Benton Pope II, 52, of Butner, and Sarah Michelle Shaw, 44, of Butner. Pope was charged with assault on a female and possession of drug paraphernalia, and Shaw was charged with assault. Pope and Shaw were issued no bond by Magistrate H. G. Herring Jr. and placed in the Granville County Detention Center.
May 19
• Communicating threats were reported on Will Suitt Road. The male victim was threatened by another male.  
May 20
• A larceny was reported on Highway 56. The perpetrator took assorted items without paying for them.  
Special events and notices
On the second Thursday of every month, Butner Public Safety will host its monthly Community Watch meetings at Butner Town Hall. Butner Public Safety urges the public to attend these meetings to learn vital information pertaining to the safety of their neighborhoods. During each of these meeting’s information such as recent arrests, crimes and safety concerns are addressed to the public. Butner Public Safety also accepts any and all information or concerns from the public so that they can be resolved or addressed. For more information, contact Sgt. N. Williams at 919-575-6561 ext. 111. The next scheduled meeting will be determined at a later date. Butner Public Safety encourages everyone to keep their parked vehicles locked.
