CREEDMOOR — Alfred Warren Lyon, 93, a lifetime resident of Granville County, passed away Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021, at his home.

He was born Dec. 16, 1927, in Granville County to the late Joel Logan Lyon and Lurline Coley Lyon. He was a member of Creedmoor First Baptist Church and was a former deacon and Sunday school teacher and was very active in his church. Mr. Lyon was a member of the Granville County School Board for many years and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Mr. Lyon farmed all of his life and was very involved with Lyon Farms.

Graveside services with military rites were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, at Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor by the Rev. Jim Shelley.

He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Richard Warren Lyon of Creedmoor and Mark Wheeler Lyon (Catherine) of Northside; a granddaughter, Coley Anne Lyon of Charlotte; sister-in-law, Mary Frances Rogers Lyon of Creedmoor; and special friends, Hilda Trejo and her four daughters, April, Leslie, Jessica and Ruby Trejo.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Wheeler Lyon; a sister, Margurite Lyon Hopkins; and a brother, James Lyon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Masonic Home for Children, 600 College St., Oxford, NC 27565, or Central Children’s Home of North Carolina, 211 W. Antioch Drive, Oxford, NC 27565.
