Veteran’s Day ceremony to be held Tuesday

Wilson will honor American veterans Tuesday during a program at the Wilson County Courthouse.
The Veterans Day Program will begin at 11 a.m. at the courthouse square with patriotic ceremonies and songs leading up to the guest speaker, Heidi Brown, a teacher at Community Christian School.
Brown was born in Poland during World War II after her mother fled her home in Berlin, Germany because of heavy bombing from the Allied forces. Although she was too young to remember much of the war, her mother and sister told her horrific stories of returning to Berlin after the war, their bombed out neighborhood, the brutality of the Russians and finally the relief when the American soldiers
arrived to occupy West Berlin.
Eddie Price, chairman of the Patriotism Committee, said there should be a good turnout at the event.
“We expect a large crowd,” he said. “It should be larger than usual because school will be out. I estimate about 300 people will be there.”
Two school groups will participate in the event, the Fike High School JROTC and New Hope Elementary chorus. American Legion Post 13, American Legion Post 17 and their auxiliaries, and American Legion DAV Chapter 8 and VFW 6651 will also participate.
After the ceremony there will be hot dogs, drinks and chips provided by the city of Wilson.
“We want people to be sure they are flying their flags on Nov. 11,” Price said. “It is an important day — Veterans Day.”
