We are thrilled to announce Rep. Ken Fontenot's substantial support for the Rebirthing Our Cultural Kingdom (ROCK) Foundation, marking a significant stride in our mission to initiate impactful programs and initiatives that celebrate the diversity of African American heritage in East Wilson, encourage artistic expression and foster a sense of unity among our residents.

I was introduced to Representative Fontenot as a Wilson Arts board member during Arts Legislative Day 2023. On this occasion, I discussed the recent art program funding that supported hands-on preservation workshops for our shotgun houses in East Wilson's African American Historic District. Witnessing the demolition of these homes in East Wilson prompted the urgent formation of the ROCK Foundation. Our mission is to save the remaining historic shotgun houses, contributing to the revitalization of impoverished, historic neighborhoods. Representative Fontenot, recognizing the value in our mission, confirmed our true alignment and advocated for preservation funding.

The significant donation of $60,000 from the North Carolina state budget to our organization will be instrumental in furthering our mission. This contribution is pivotal not only for preserving and educating about the built heritage of the African American community in the history of East Wilson, but also for contributing to the broader historical narrative of our nation. Representative Fontenot's dedication to understanding the needs of our community and advocating for the allocation of resources is an inspiring testament to his leadership. We are confident that the funds received will contribute significantly to the success of our projects, leaving a lasting positive impact on the lives of those we serve.

Once again, thank you, Representative Fontenot, for your unwavering support and belief in the importance of cultural preservation.
