A Wilson woman has been charged with felony child abuse after the mother's 15-day-old baby suffered a broken femur.

Sharion Delois Hinnant, 30, of the 500 block of Lee Street, faces one count of felony intentional child abuse with serious injury, according to a release from Sgt. Eric McInerny, public information officer with the Wilson Police Department.

McInerny said police responded to Wilson Medical Center at 10:42 a.m. Sept. 21 after receiving a report of child abuse.

"Officers spoke with hospital personnel who advised that a 15-day-old infant was suffering from a broken femur," McInerny said.

The child was taken to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville for treatment.

McInerny said the child's case was assigned to the Wilson Police Department Criminal Investigations Division. Upon further investigation, he said, detectives filed the charge against Hinnant.

Hinnant was arrested on Thursday and placed in the Wilson County Detention Center without bond. She made her first appearance in Wilson County District Court on Friday.

Police ask anyone with information about the case to call the Wilson Police Department at 252-399-2323 or Crime Stoppers at 252-243-2255.
