Harold Dean Hawley


 

 

Kenly — Harold Dean Hawley passed away unexpectedly at his home on September 9, 2021. Dean was born on January 3, 1969, to Cleveland Harold Hawley and Janice Smith Hawley. Dean grew up in Wilson, graduated from Beddingfield High School and was the Owner and Grill Master of BBQ COLLECTIVE SMOKEHOUSE, his catering business. Dean was a member of Evansdale United Methodist Church. He was Past Master of the Wilson Masonic Lodge 712 and Lucama Masonic Lodge 527. He was a member of the Wilson Shrine Club, serving as Past President and as the Post Commander of Wilson County Monster Trucks. Dean loved participating with the Shrine Club as he believed in helping the Shriners Hospital for children. Dean was especially proud of his developing catering business, where he learned his cooking skills from his father and Uncle Randy. He participated in several barbecue cooking contests where he brought home several trophies and was famous for BBQ Shine, his barbecue sauce. Dean served his community by delivering meals to elderly and was honored to serve as the pit master teaching 4-H youth about grilling.

Dean loved people and family. He loved visiting with people. He always had a life lesson to share. To know Dean was to love Dean. He had a huge impact on the Wilson Community with his food and caring loving personality. Dean was such a big cut-up and always had a joke to share. He wanted to make others smile and laugh, his laugh was contagious. Dean loved catering events, creating new memories, and making new friends.

Dean is survived by his wife, Cindy Hawley, who he has been with for 32 years; their beloved daughter, Gabby Rose (furbaby); his mother, Jane Hawley Lamm; sisters, Dawn Milford (Rodney) Dana Harrell (Norman), Debra Lynn Proctor – Half-sister, and his brother-in-law, James Albritton (Canary). He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Cleveland Harold Hawley; his grandparents and Uncle Randy Hawley.

Memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Sunday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson with the family receiving friends immediately following the service. Pastor Randy Imes will officiate. The family request that you dress comfortable, as Dean would want.
